NBA Trailblazer: Earl Lloyd was the first African American to play in the NBA in 1950, breaking the league's color barrier.

Frederick "Fritz" Pollard (1894-1986)
Frederick Pollard was the first African American to play quarterback in the American Professional Football Association (APFA), which later became the NFL.
Frederick "Fritz" Pollard also made history as one of the first African American head coaches in the NFL when he co-coached the Akron Pros in 1921.
He played for several teams in the early years of professional football, Including the Akron Pros, Hammond Pros, and Milwaukee Badgers.
